After an afternoon of walking in Russian Jack Park, we decided to continue the cozy activities with some reading and writing time at Summit Spice & Tea Company’s tea room.

The shop is split into two sections: a store where customers can purchase loose leaf teas, tea-making accessories, spices, chocolates, and specialty food items. There are over 30 different kinds of teas available for purchase, and they are sold by weight. They even have tins that can be purchased and brought back for refills.

The other section is the tea room. It’s a simple, small, and unfussy space. There are about 10 wooden tables, and I’ve never found it to be terribly busy. It seems to attract a more serious, introverted sort of clientele; people who play strategy board games, discuss books, and engage in intentional conversations.

On this occasion, we went to the counter and rang the bell. An employee appeared from behind the curtain separating the counter from the back space. My husband ordered an iced ginger mint tea with mango boba and a peanut butter cookie. I asked for a pot of cinnamon rooibos and a chocolate chip cookie. We sat at one of the wooden tables for an hour or so, sipping our drinks and nibbling our cookies, while a light rain drizzled outside. I read By the Light of Uranium Glass by William H. Boyd, and my husband pretended to read Alaska by James Michener. There’s nothing more pleasant and cozy than watching rainy weather through the window while comfortably passing the time indoors.
